    I have windows 7 64bit Ultimate.
Not sure what kind of mother board I have.
It's a diamond something or other.
    3 gigs of ram.
    Processor: Intel(r) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU E6750 @2.66GHz
    Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce 8600GTS

My computer has been blue screening recently and it seems like almost every time it does, I get a new message.
The two most recent ones have been driver_irql_not_less_or_equal and dxgkrnl.sys.
I have no clue what to do.
It is a custom built computer, and I really don't think the person who built it knows exactly what they are doing.
Could someone please help me figure out how to fix it?

dxgkrnl.sys to me sounds like DirectX.

Have you updated to the latest version of DirectX?

Have you installed the latest version of your graphics card drivers?

As far as I know I have...but i'm pretty sure i've gotten other error messages as well, I just don't remember what they say.
The blue screens are quite aggravating as they occur often. I just want them to stop.

    Try downloading this... http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...38-DB71-4C1B-BC6A-9B6652CD92A3&displaylang=en

Run the file and follow the instructions.

    After that go here... http://www.nvidia.co.uk/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-uk

Choose the appropriate settings from the drop down menus, so from product series you would choose "GeForce 8 series" Download the file and then run it. Follow the instructions and restart your computer when asked.

Bluescreens are very annoying, they are happening to me right now...I am trying to get help in the vista forum :)

When you have installed that driver and restarted your computer download the latest DirectX from the first link i provided. Install that and then restart your computer once more.

I had a USB error a while ago that happaned every 5 minutes and i was basically unable to use my computer for about a year... anyway... if you have a lot of devices connected to your computer, remove any that you do not need ot use very often and just plug them in when you do. How do you connect to the internet? If it is with a USB modem then that might be the problem. What I had to do is buy a powered 4 Port USB Hub and plug it into the wall to give my computer more power.

Anyway let us know how you get on with this, and see it you get the blue screen again. :)

I have one of the high speed usb hubs. And i also have an extra internal usb port in the back. I think that is what's causing the problem. I'm going to get it taken out soon.
I hardly have anything plugged into my usb ports. And i get my internet via router.

Go Start > Run > dxdiag > Enter to run the DirectX diagnostics tool.

If you do not have the Run command on your start menu right click on the Taskbar > Properties > Start Menu tab > Customise - scroll down and check Run command.

The download you posted for DirectX upgrades to 9.0c - Windows 7 has DirectX 11.

Yes, but upgrading DirectX 10 or 11 is not possible as far as I am aware...

DirectX 9 is seperated from 10 and 11 so upgrading DirectX 9 will not hurt the system.

From my research this appears to be a grey area .....

Windows 7 is not listed under the Supported Operating Systems in the DirectX End-User Runtime Web Installer dated Aug 2009 - the same month Windows 7 RTM was available to Technet/MSDN subscribers.

AFAIK only one version of DirectX can be run and DirectX 11 is backwards compatible with software written for earlier versions.

I found one hit in which it was mentioned that loading DirectX 9.0c will replace files as necessary in higher versions - must say I look a little sideways at that.

If there is a problem with dxgkrnl.sys running System File Checker should resolve the issue.

Personally I'd focus on hardware. Multiple sources for a BSOD point to hardware.

I'd start by checking memory, then the PSU.
