My computer wants to update but for some reason won't let me. It's been like this for three days. Also, stuff has started disappearing from my computer. Like randomly my extension of Windows Live went missing and some of my fonts. I think I have a virus of some kind that I can't get rid of. I hope it's not that. Can anyone please give me better news?

Thank You

Thank you for all the help. I've done everything that was requested of me but am still having no luck. Well, I also posted what I needed to in the Malware Forums. ^^

Resolved issues and remaining issues.

Ok, the malware issues have been resolved, thankfully, but I am still having issues getting updates from Windows. It keeps telling me it either can't check for updates or that updates are already downloading, which is why they can't download the updates, which is impossible. Any thoughts on this?

First, delete the WindowsUpdate.log.

1. Click Start, and in the Search box on the start menu, type CMD, then press Ctrl+Shift+Enter (this will get you an elevation prompt for an Administrator command prompt)
2. At the command prompt, type net stop wuauserv, then press Enter
3. Next type del %windir%\WindowsUpdate.log, then press Enter
4. Last type net start wuauserv, press Enter and close the command prompt.

Now attempt to run Windows Update.

When that fails, open the WindowsUpdate.log, type %windir%\WindowsUpdate.log in Vista's Start Search box & press [Enter]

Copy & paste the log in your reply.

Hmmmm....

Tried it, still no cigar. But I didn't try the part about fixing it yourself out of fear I'd do something wrong. Thank you for the suggestion though. :]

Can you tell me what you tried?

You also receive this error:
Error 0x80072F78 is
ERROR_HTTP_INVALID_SERVER_RESPONSE
The server response could not be parsed.

There's a whole list of things to go through. Follow the steps listed in this document: How to troubleshoot problems connecting to Windows Update or to Microsoft Update

Hu?

So what did you try?

Anyway, I already provided you with lots to try in my other reply. Post back after you have run through all those.

I tried all that and still nothing. I even tried typing the error number I get into the search box on Microsoft. Maybe it will help. It is Code 80070424

Yes, I can read your log file & see the error codes.

Let's completely kill WU & start from scratch:

Download and run this Microsoft fixit.

Note: It can take up to 20 minutes to run. Just let it work to a conclusion no matter how long it might take.

Note II: It will need to reboot your system. Please agree to the reboot.

Once you have done this, delete the WindowsUpdate.log.

If Windows Update fails again, open the WindowsUpdate.log, type %windir%\WindowsUpdate.log in Vista's Start Search box & press [Enter]

Copy & paste the log in your reply.
