    Hi,

    I have a problem.

I am trying to reinstall Win XP on my PC. I have used this CD (and it's backup copy, which I created when new) numerous times over a period of years without any problem. However, now both copies refuse to boot up, so it is not a problem with the CD itself. I have set the PC to boot up from CD in the BIOS and F12, but the PC simply reads the CD for a while and proceeds to the current OS.

Any ideas? Is it possible to copy all OS files to my hard drive, create an ISO copy of them, and burn a CD? Or else, any other better ideas would be appreciated.

    Thanks.

A couple specs of dust inside the drive can cause this. And or a new plain jane cd drive cost about $15.

Thanks for the response, Steve, but the DVD drive plays and records other CD/DVD's just fine. This previously booting CD refuses to boot on the secondary DVD drive I have on this particular PC or any of our other 4 PCs or laptops. What's more? The second copy of the same CD, which used to boot up refuses to do so now. The surfaces on both are in pristine condition.

Be that as it may, I chucked them both and have created an ISO image of a working CD on my hard drive. No more of this mysterious, but inevitable, misbehavior of CDs and DVDs with limited shelf life. I should have known!

This appears to be resolved. I will mark it.
