    Hello all!

I'm working on a friends Compaq EVO N610C Laptop with Windows XP Home

This is a long story,,,, about month ago he bought this thing from someone and of course it wasn't charging, I tested the charger out and it was not putting out any voltage let along the 15.5 that was called for. So I told him get on ebay buy a charger and a battery being the battery by now wasn't any good also.

So a week later I take a look at it and sure enough things are great the new battery takes a charge, things are good with the world.

The next week he calls me and says the battery only lasts for about 42 mins. I meet him over at a friends house for dinner and sure enough the charger was putting out the 15.5 and bios showed the battery as did the OS.

I tell him to send it back and have them send out a new one, the guy even stated they get bad ones at times.

My friend gets the new one now, bios does not show a battery and the OS states the same (not present) I talked to HP (chat) for about 2 hours they state after running through some other tests, make sure and update the bios then try it. Of course the link is dead right now.

My question, do you folks think it could be the battery again or maybe the onboard power chip that went bad on the motherboard?

    Thanks

    Greg

When you use a generic battery, it won't include the electronics that would let the computer read the battery status.

    Morning Arie

    Morning Arie

Ok that may tell why the first battery he sent back did in fact show up in bios and the os. Then the second one they cheaped out and send generic battery.

I called them yesterday this time instead of my friend and I told them the tests I had done, they stated send it back and we will credit your card.

I then called my friend and told him now go some where that sells only or buy only a Compaq replacement battery.

    Thanks for the tip.

    You're welcome.

An OEM replacement may be cheaper then an original, and an OEM replacement will support communication with your computer.
