Does anyone know how to run 3gp video files (from a mobile/cellular phone) using Videolan on Vista Home Premium so that the audio as well as the video runs?

I can run these files in QuickTime but for some reason they will run in Videolan OK but minus the sound. I also get a pop-up telling me that there has been an error & Videolan can't play the file type. Then it lets me play it perfectly but without any sound!

I have been told there is a solution to this, has anyone tried Videolan?

EDIT: After talking to admin on the VideoLan forums it appears that the VLC player doesn't support audio on AMR files. They will run without sound however.

That's the same thing correct? VLC doesn't support audio/sound.

And so you're going to use Quicktime and be done with it?

VLC will support audio in other files, like OGG & others, that's why I think it can be a useful player.

I think I have no choice but to use QuickTime for 3gp files if I want sound & vision (usually from a mobile/cellular phone).

I am not sure about this but I have a feeling that it is some legal problem or discrepancy with open source & proprietary file types.
