I have a emachines T3265. My Cd rom is drive D and my dvd rw is drive E. About a week ago my Drive E stopped playing dvds altogether. When I inserted a dvd, a light came on in the drive and the mouse arrow had an hourglass. But the dvd never played. I'd double-click the drive and it told me to please insert disc into drive E.
My thinking was that probably the laser was out in it.
So i went and purchased a LG 22x internal super multi dvd rewriter. Took out the old drive and installed the new drive.
Now my computer will not recognize that drive at all. I assumed it would've found new hardware and i would be given instructions but nothing.
Can someone please offer some advice.
    Thanks,
    Jeff

Did you replace like with like? - A PATA (IDE) drive with a PATA or a SATA drive with a SATA?

    Is the drive jumpered correctly?

Have you checked the cables - at both ends? It's very easy to disturb a cable when working in the box.

Any indication that the drive is powering up on boot? Lights up briefly?

    Thanks for the response.
I installed the drive wire for wire. There were only two connections.
After my first attempt of booting up system and realizing my problem, i immediately opened up computer and checked all connections.
It does light up and eject.
If I go to "my computer ", the drive doesn't even show up on the list of drives.
I checked device manager as well under dvd/cd drives and it only shows i have one drive installed which would be my cd drive d.
So i guess my problem is that my computer does not realize it has a new drive installed?

    OK
So I did what that Microsoft site told me to do to no avail. After doing this now my cd drive d doesn't read.
Out of frustration, I used system restore back a week.
Still didn't read new drive. So i took out drive and inserted old drive and it popped up in the My Computer window.
Inserted CD into cd drive d and it read and played. Great.
Inserted DVD into drive e and still did not work.
Inserted CD into drive e and still did not work.
Went back to the Microsoft site to try it again and now, again, no drives work at all.
Also made sure my drivers were up to date and they were.

A questions you have not answered .....
Are you able to try the drive in another computer to confirm that it is functional?

When you insert a disc into either drive, it lights up and sounds like it will work. Even the arrow of the mouse has that cd symbol that pops up on the side of it. But nothing happens. The drive shows no disc inserted.

Already returned the LG drive to the store.

I have no other computers in the house to try.

Is there a way to undo what that Microsoft site told me to do? At least my cd drive was working before I did that.

    Thanks again guys.

Make a System Restore to a point prior to applying the Microsoft 'fix'.
