Windows Vista Windows Vista Login as Administrator

    HI

    I am fairly new to Windows Vista but a long time windows user. When recently running a virus scan some malware was discovered but when asked to remove it indicated that it could not that I needed to log in as administrator. My computer came with Vista Home Premium and I don't remember setting up an Administrator account but that was over a year ago.

    When I went to the login and selected to switch user there is no administrator account. I have muddled around a bit in the control panel, etc but still not sure what to do.

    Computer is a dell xps M1530.

    To enable the build-in Administrator account, follow these steps:

    1. Click Start, and in Vista's Start Search box type cmd
    2. In the search results list, right-click Command Prompt, and then click Run as Administrator
    3. When you are prompted by User Account Control, click Continue
    4. At the command prompt, type net user administrator /active:yes, and then press [Enter]
    5. Type net user administrator <Password>, and then press [Enter]

      Note: Replace the <Password> tag with your password which you want to set to the administrator account.
    6. Type exit, and then press [Enter]
