When viewing the above in device manager I see the following:

    ATI IDE Controller x 2
    ATI IDE Controller
    Primary IDE Channel x 2
    Primary IDE Channel
    Secondary IDE Channel x 2
    Secondary IDE Channel

is this correct??? as I remember there should only be one of each...reflecting two IDE channels on the motherboard.

    Regards

    Whacker

The IDE channels may also include SATA... (I'll ask someone to confirm this).

SATA/PATA Specs for your board are:

    From ABIT

I'd leave well alone unless you have a problem in which case the above link can be used to find up to date drivers.

My SATA connectors are listed under that heading, but they are described as "SATA ".

You might need to install drivers for the SATA Controller.

Thanks Guys, this was just a general question...It wasn't in relation to my system listed here (sorry wildfire if I was misleading) it was to do with another system I was troubleshooting as per pervious posts on DMA & PIO modes which Pete C helped me solve. I am trying to understand IDE-ATA controllers & DMA & PIO modes.

    Whacker.

 Not misleading at all but it will help in future if you point that out in your queries :)

Wikipedia is a good place to start...

    ATA DMA PIO

    Hope this helps
