I wanted to download the Windows 7 beta to try it out but when I went to do it I was too late. Somehow Microsoft thinks I have the beta and they sent me the notification to pre-order the full release at a 50% discount. ****! What's everyones opinion on Win 7?

Windows 7 "RC" is available thru August 15th..

There are many threads in this Win 7 section where people have stated their likes/dislikes.

Like Steve said, the Release Candidate is still available for download.

The beta expires on August 1st, and is no longer available for download.

You can still download it if you're unsure as to whether you want to throw Microsoft a Fifty for upgrading.

I, for one, am totally digging it, and will likely take the opportunity and go with Pro, although I really want Ultimate.

Arie, Steve, and whoever else wants to respond. 50% off on an "if you act now" basis...Sounds great, but Ultimate is not on the list. GRRR...

Why would anyone not go with Ultimate both on upgrades and on full kit, with only $20 between Pro and Ultimate once the 50% promo is over??

Well, AFAIK all you get with Ultimate over Professional is:
    • Branch Cache
    • Direct Access
    • BitLocker
    • MUI

Suppose Ultimate will be hard to find at retail...

And both the Upgrade *and* the full version are only $20 apart. Who wouldn't get Ultimate over Preofessional?

Please can I request that you post using useful Topic Subjects, i.e. instead of 'Disappointed', put 'Disappointed - Windows Beta Closed?'.

Just means that users like me know what the topic is about, to save us opening it incase its not of interest.

    Like I said:

1: You'll be hard pressed to find it
2: Why spend $20 on stuff you will never need?

Get professional & be done with it.

$20 will hardly break the bank, and you never know when you might require more from your PC, i.e. the features of Ultimate!

You coming stateside anytime soon?? ;)

    Cheerios!

    Doubtful.

I have... well, BitLocker to Go... so on USB sticks... useful for people that forget/loose their sticks with data (can you say UK government?). Without password no access. Data is encrypted, you need the password to get access to the encrypted data.

No, I'm just back after my trip, so maybe next year.

Ohh, nice! You can use BitLocker on regular USB sticks?? That would be highly useful for me.

I use SanDisk Cruzer's mostly. After deleting the U3 nonsense, they seem to work very well. Which kind are you partial to? The only annoying thing is the flashing at night.

    Thanks!

    The FREE kind :)

I only bought my 1st one, which was a Corsair Flash Voyager (1GB). I subsequently received a no-name 1GB drive from MS, followed by a 2GB SanDisk cruzer micro at a Vista event. Last one I got was another 1GB no-name drive from mentos chewinggum :)
