Hi,

I have a problem. Hoping I can find help. Last Friday June12, 2009. I was using my computer in the morning and and I shut it off to go to an appointment and when I came back. I tried to watch a video from youtube. But I got the message that I either had my Javascript turned off or an old version of the adobe flash player. Since then I have tried everything from deleting the flash player and the java and reinstalling them. Which has not work. Until today I never thought of doing a system restore to an earier date. But when I checked the dates. Iy only goes back to the Saturday June 13th. I don't want to lose everything I have on the computer like my papers I've written to the pictures and my music. Please is there anyone who can help me?

I'm at my wits end..

Thank you.

1. Please download JavaRa to your desktop and unzip it to its own folder
• Run JavaRa.exe, pick the language of your choice and click Select. Then click Remove Older Versions.
• Accept any prompts.
• Open JavaRa.exe again and select Search For Updates.
• Select Update Using Sun Java's Website then click Search and click on the Open Webpage button. Download and install the latest Java Runtime Environment (JRE) version for your computer.

Note 1: UNCHECK any pre-checked toolbar and/or software offered with the Java update. The pre-checked toolbars/software are not part of the Java update.

Note 2: The Java Quick Starter (JQS.exe) adds a service to improve the initial startup time of Java applets and applications. If you don't want to run another extra service, go to Start > Control Panel > Java > Advanced > Miscellaneous and uncheck the box for Java Quick Starter. Click OK and restart your computer.

2. Use this tool: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/141/tn_14157.html to completely uninstall Flash.
Restart computer. Install fresh copy.

Side note: I recommend, you use Erunt: http://www.larshederer.homepage.t-online.de/erunt/
Manual: http://pcug.org.au/boesen/ERUNT/ERUNT.htm
In my opinion, it's better, then System Restore, and I use it on all my Windows versions.

Thanks for the help. I tried it but no sucess. :( I guess it is either restoring the system to out of the box or taking it somewhere to see if it can be fixed.

Lack of Java or Flash shouldn't prevent you from making a backup of your data (which you should have been doing anyway). Is there another problem which makes backups difficult?

Thank you for all the help. Specially Broni. I have printed what you wrote and I'm going to save it in case I might need it in the future. Thank you.

AS for the comment on Why I didn't back things up. I did. But when you live on a fixed income sometimes things like backing a computer's programs comes in last. Sometimes things like bills and feeding my family are a little more important. So I'm sorry I didn't do something right. But other things are more important.

So I will learn to do without it or fix it on my own. Or until I can pay someone to fix it.

Thank you.

Yep real life does intrude sometimes ;)

DannysBabe, I'm sorry if my post came across as condecending. What I meant was if a reset to factory default was your only solution there is/was nothing to stop you from making a backup now.

Hopefully Broni's solution will work for you, please let us know how you get on.

Hi DannysBabe. Try downloading and installing Flash Player from here. Hopefully you can get it to install successfully.

What was the error message that you got when you attempted to install flash player? Try this, Enable the Administrator Account in Windows Vista.

After the administrator account has been enabled, log out of your user account and log in as administrator on the welcome screen. After you log in, attempt to install flash player again from the link I provided. See if you can get it to install this time.

I tried what Even said but it too didn't work. So I give up. Sitting in front of this computer is not my favorite thing to do while the weather is so nice. Thank you all for your help and if I get it fixed in the near future I will come back and say how it was done.

I just have to make more of an effort to learn more about computers and the operating system them have.

Thank you...
