I recently upgraded (don't laugh too hard) to NS 7.2 from NS 4.8. Had a crash Wed evening and while wanting to panic - pull my hair out, slit my throat, and throw a temper tantrum -- I did not. Appeared to have lost 12 years' worth of messages (some read, most not read).

Found this forum and I wish to THANK the moderators here and the users (who had similar issues before) who posted previously their symptoms and possible solutions.

    The advice worked!:)

Out of 4 email accounts recovered, only one so far seems to still have lingering effects from the crash and recovery, the mail filters on my first mail account. The filter rules aren't finding the folders (in which the new emails should be filed), but I'm assuming at this point, the problem with these is because the emails to be moved were designated to subfolders of subfolders. I can work through this issue a bit at a time.

Again, my thanks to those who walked this painful path before me.

NS7.2 seems to work fine for those who don't like changes. I can't even remember when I shed it.
Just one observation, old programs are less secure than new ones, so it is a good idea to change. And, some websites do not accept old programs

Point noted. I use IE 6 for Internet browsing at home, with the thought that I'll move to IE 8 once I get the issues with the NS 7.2 mail filters squared away *and* after I've moved to a non-Netscape email client. Started using IE 7 about two weeks ago and don't care for it at all. And am thinking that IE 8 isn't that much different from 7, so I might as well skip that *thrill* at home. :)

Thunderbird is the mail client I should move to if I want to migrate my mailboxes quickly, yes?

    Thanks for your reply.

Since your obviously familiar with Netscape, I will suggest you take a look at Mozilla's Seamonkey which for all practical purposes is identical to NS 7.2 except it continues to be updated and kept current by the Mozilla Group.

Being an old Netscape fan since about day one and although I have Firefox, Thunderbird, IE 8 and even NS 7.2 and 4.76 installed it is Seamonkey I reach for and have chosen to use as my default browser and e-mail program.

    My 2 cents, Ray

Thanks Ray! Not sure I need the entire suite (i.e. NS replacement). I quit using the NS browswer 4 or 5 years ago when many web sites became inaccessible. I do have a small genealogy-related web site which I have not updated since 1999, which is about to meet its demise at the end of the month when Classic CompuServe is gone. So...I might be in need of an HTML editor, which I assume Seamonkey has. The potential need for the HTML editor would make me consider Seamonkey, along with the more important (to me) need for a compatible email client.

YES, Seamonkey has the HTML Editor. AND Yep, if your using NS for mail only then Thunderbird is probably the way to go.

As I'm sure your aware, Firefox,Thunderbird and Seamonkey are all Mozilla produced and so are pretty much alike and compatible with each other.

Good Luck with whatever your choice.

Genealogy Huh! -- I got a wife that is really into that. But, I'm proud of her because she stayed with it until she got herself and our 2 daughters into the DAR. Even got an award certificate for opening up a family line that had never been opened before.

    Cheers, Ray
