    Hi everyone,
this is my first post so go easy on me.

I have a Packard Bell Easynote C3300 which when turned on immediately goes to the advanced menu(the same one as when you press f12 on start up)
When I select any form of startup eg safemode etc I get as far as the windows xp logo and then the laptop switches off but immediately restarts back to advanced menu and so the cycle continues,
I have ran memtest which returned no problems.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

Boot to the Options screen and select "Disable automatic restart on system failure." Press enter and let it continue booting. That may render an error screen that will contain more information about what is wrong.

    Thankyou for your reply,

    Done that and it says,
A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer

Be sure you don't have any disks in any drives. I know you checked that but i have to ask. ;)

Then pop the cover and reseat the connections to the hard drive and motherboard. If that doesn't help, you may have a failed drive.

Test it by running the diagnostic software from the manufacturer. Available here.

Since it seems that you have a laptop, there's no real "resetting connections ". Run the hard drive diagnostics. You'd probably first have to figure out which hard drive is installed on your system... according to what I found on the UK Packard bell site its a Fujitsu Hard Disk Drive MHT2040AT, so you'll need to get the Fujitsu DOS Diagnostic Tool Ver. 7.0.

Yes - when you have made the CD boot from it on the Packard Bell - check your boot order is CD-ROM > Floppy if fitted > Hard Drive.

Going into this in more detail the diagnostic software recommended requires a floppy drive which, according to the specs of the Packard Bell Easynote C3300, you do not have. The Windows version of the software must be run from within Windows - also a non starter.

This is unusual and unhelpful on the part of Fujitsu - most other manufacturer's diagnostic software runs from a bootable CD.

There are third party diagnostic suites which run from a bootable Cd, but I have no knowledge of them - surferdude2 is your man on these :)
