My pc is freezzing for about 6 seconds every 10 seconds when i explore my harddrive????????

my pc had 2 sata and 2 ide hard drive. OS is on sata which are working okay.
when i choose to view one of the ide drives this is when it starts to freeze up going in and out of freezing. You can move the mouse then it stops and if you keep moving the mouse whilst its frozen then it reappears wher you moved it to whilst frozen.

Only workaround from this is to manually restart pc.

I have run chkdisk within windows which reshedules it for restart and then it hangs.

Does anyone know of a work around to this as i need the data of this drive.

This sounds like potentially your antivirus scanner scanning the drive that you're trying to access but pressuring your CPU a little too much. Try booting up, temporarily disabling your antivirus, then accessing the drive and see if the same occurs.

If it does, you'll know that perhaps you need to uninstall your present AV app and reinstall a new one - I highly recommend AVG's free version.

The only other possibility is trying to move the troublesome drive to another IDE channel, it may be that there is a hardware/IRQ conflict of some sort, but I'm only guessing on this final point.

Good luck and let us know how you get on!

Does CHKDSK appear to hang when it is running? It might be trying to make repairs. Let it run for as long as possible, so set it up to run overnight.

Try to plug-in your hdd to a usb external hdd enclosure, and plug-it to another pc, check if you were able to access and retrieve your files..good luck..

I think pulling the drive is a bit premature.

I agree - on a badly corrupt drive, depending on the size, it can take many hours to work through it.

What drive is this? Not the boot drive, right? How much free space is on this drive?

But you can view the 2nd IDE drive okay? Did they both used to work fine?
