I recently bought a Dell quad core, 6 gig ram monster and was struttin' around like a champ, I had 'arrived at last'. Then a couple of days ago I read that there are compatibility issues with '64 bit' (anything over 4 gigs ram needs a 64 bit operating system) and a lot of software and hardware. Since I'm in the market for a camcorder I went to the 'WINDOWS COMPATIBILITY CENTRE' site which can be located by clicking on the relevant logo on the 'MARKET PLACE SITE'.

    http://img.windowsmarketplace.com/img/edt/marketplace2.0/statichome/homepage.htm

When using the 'certified for windows' filter which means the search results will only give items that have been fully tested by Microsoft and will definately work with 64 bit and 32 bit along with any accompanying software, there are only six camcorders that get the green tick!!!

They are all Canon and none of them are 'hard drive cams' only the mini dv tape ones.

Does anyone else have a similar story?

Nope. But then again, I've never looked at connecting a camcorder.

I would just get the cam I wanted, but would tell the sales person that I would be returning the camcorder if it wouldn't function with my PC. That way you can just test the actual camcorder.

That's probably the best idea. Thanks Arie.
