I've now had it w/ iTunes (keeps dumping my music) and it takes days to reload it (most of it is edited so it doesn't just reload - it's complicated). so I'm looking for a RELIABLE player.
I DO NOT have an iPod (I use a Creative Labs MP3 player), so there are no issues there, I just want it for playing music on the computer.
    What's a good player?

hI Chas, have you tried Nero? My Nero has Media Player in the Suite and it works OK. Neil.

I have Nero and will have to look at it. I didn't realise it had a player.
I've tried a couple other players since starting this thread, but they really don't have the features iTunes does. But then iTunes dumps my music, and in checking online I've found this is a typical problem for iTunes.

    Neil, what's the player called?
    I can't find it.
Found a mixer though, have you used it?
I typically use the wave editor (for editing).

    Neil,
Looks like the only player is Showtime (video).
Not sure if there's another I didn't load.
    I'm using Nero 7 Ultra.

What's wrong with Windows Media Player for music? Version 10+ has a nice library feature.

Haven't tried it since version 8 (I believe), and I didn't care for it. It was the 1st player I used and never took to it. Found out about iTunes and loved it. I'm trying MusikCube now, but it's fairly limited compared to iTunes. I miss being able to attach EQ and limit the length of the file. Those are two great features in iTunes.

I'd reccomend WMP Version 11. It's, in my experience, the best player out there, however I'm not 100% sure if it provides the features you're used too in Itunes. Personally I use Itunes sole-ly for syncing my Ipod, as I Havn't found any alternatives that still keep my playcount from what i listen to on the go.

WMP 11 - You can even change the colour of it without much hassle! :)

chas if ur still looking for a player u might want check out winamp (when i was in college thats what i used and it was the best)

PS beware of upgrading wmp11, i for one had lots of trouble with it (something about DRM) if ur going the wmp way i suggest u stick to 9 or 10.

Didn't care for WMP much. Trouble is I'm used tot he features of iTunes. Tried iTunes 6.0.5 but it seems to have a limit of 46GB's of music. Doesn't save anything over this, so I loaded music and when I restarted iTunes the music was gone. I'll try winamp.
    Thx!

Do you know if Winamp has a crossfade option? I don't see many available options.
    Thx! :)

    Oh well.
    That's cool.
I'll try it for a bit and see what I can find.

Oh and crossfade is when you have one track fade into the next. You typically set the time (in seconds) for this.

For a computer player only, I use Zune (from Microsoft). you do not have to have the physical player to have your music. It shows disc covers, musicians, and while slow loading, is a really good player.

I've been using Winamp for a couple wks now and it's OK, but limited compared to iTunes. It does have a very smooth sound when compared to iTunes though. The features I miss are being able to limit the length of a song, and EQing ea individual song. You can EQ in Winamp, but it was so much easier in iTunes.
What is Zune like feature wise?

Hi Chas, My apologies I have been trying out Win7 Beta and forgot to check back. I use Nero 6 Ultra Edition and Nero Media Player is shown in the drop down list as a separate entity on it's own. I don't think it has the enhancements you require. Neil.
