I upgraded to Vista from XP (not a clean install).
Whenever I download security updates they install correctly with the exception of one.
I have had the following message numerous times
"Security update for Microsoft.NET framework, version 1.1 Service pack 1 (KB886903) installation failed" (Error code 643)
Can anyone tell me how to deal with this please?
    Thanks in advance
    Reg

It always fails now.. Even on XP.. Because it's now redundant.

Wrong. I recently install .NET Framework 1.1 for a program that wouldn't work without it. I had no problems with the install, nor any since. I've had it update at least once as well.

Find error codes associated with the failing update in the WindowsUpdate.log.

To open this log, go to Start > Run and type

    %windir%/WindowsUpdate.log

    and press OK.

    Post relevant info here.

For more information see: How to read the Windowsupdate.log file
