I have had my laptop for over like 2 1/2 years. I replaced the charger once and the battery twice recently.

When I plug the AC adaptor into my laptop while the laptop is turned on, the charging light will stay on for like a minute, then it acts as battery mode even though its plugged in. The only way I can get the charge light back on is to unplug the AC adaptor and plug it back in, but the same problem happens each time.

The only way to charge the laptop correctly is to charge the laptop while it is shut down.

    Any ideas

Hi sniper9228. :) It could be your labtop has a defective battery. Also maybe your computer is using more power than it can charge into the battery therefore the battery doesn't charge when the computer is on but it does when its shut down. Maybe your labtop is overheating. Make sure the labtop has a clean surface thats its sitting on and that all the airways are clear of dust and dirt.

Sounds like a Dell. If it is, replace the adapter (with a Dell factory replacement, not one of the Chinese junkers on ebay, because they won't work either).

If it's not, please advise on make and model.

Ok. No Problem Sniper. Just let me know if your problem has changed/improved or not when you get the chance.

I have replaced the battery twice AFTER I having the problem, so I dont think it is a defective battery.

I do use a laptop cooler. I have used pressurized air.

How can I check this? or inspect it

Ok. I just had a Satellite on the bench tonight with the *exact* same problem. Turns out it was the adapter that was faulty. I replaced it and voila! Battery was charging again while I was installing AVG and stuff.

EDIT: The funny thing of it was that removing the battery and running just off the adapter itself was no problem. Put the battery back in and it started running strictly off battery. Very wierd stuff.
