You'll need to open the case to try and narrow down where the sound is coming from.

Check the screws on the SMPS. They may have become loose.

Hi Jan. In addition to checking the PSU also check to make sure that there is no dust or dirt inside the case. If theres dust/dirt use a small air compressor and blow all the dust out of the case. Also check all the other fans in the computer as well. One of them could be starting to fail or has dust built up on it which will reduce airflow.

I personally wouldn't recommend leaving the computer case partly open while the computer is running. If it however stops the humming from happening and you feel that you are comfortable with leaving the case partly open then by all means go ahead and do that. BTW Your Welcome Jan. :)

The side of the case is vibrating. Put it back on and put pressure on it with your hand. The buzzing should go away.

I agree that you could put your hand/fingers on the panels and see if it stopped.

You could try pressing the frame inside the case and see if there is any change.

It "doesn't hum all the time "...is it only when there is a CD/DVD in the optical drive?
