While surfing around, I came to this site http://www.dposoft.net/ which claims to have a software to repair damaged hard disk.

Has anyone heard of it or tried it ? Any comments ?

Sounds as though it may be rather like GRC's SpinRite, that can clean and restore bad sectors.

I used it several months ago on a drive with quite a number of bad sectors. Prior to use, a clean install of XP corrupted to the point of being non-bootable within hours. Another clean install after running HDD Regenerator (it reported all but 2 of many bad sectors repaired) is still working flawlessly today.

You should visit grc.com Chas and read about SpinRite Chas.
One day it may be needed, but the info to be recovered has to be worth about $90!

Its Murphys Law that you would always loose your most precious data [monetary/sentimentally] which you have not backed up. All most all of the other not so important data would be there :(

Wish I'd known this a couple yrs back, Roger, when I paid a guy around $100 to recover data, and w/ this option I'd still have the program and ability to recover. :(

Chas, these kind of utils [if these work as advertised] are only helpful if there is some minor defect in media & your electronics & heads are ok. Otherwise, a recovery service is the only option available. :(

    Hi RS,

You really should visit GRC and read about what SpinRite can do,and has done. The satisfied users report having recovered corrupted sectors as well as recovering important data, this goes far beyond minor media defects.
