Computer was working fine last nite... cam in this AM is it was off. Powered up and got one long 5-sec. beep followed by 3 sec. silence, repeats until power is turned off again.

No POST screen or activity on monitor.

WIN XPProSP3 installed on Microstar 6714 MoBo

Just on the off chance it was the RAM, I replaced both sticks with known good ones....same problem.

My office computer... no gaming or garbage d/l to the HDD.

Further: replaced the RAM with original and took another shot.... it booted right up!

Turned it off to replace the case, did so and ... nothing at all.

Turned it off and then back on and we're right back to the single long beep as per above.

I'm totally confused. Now with case off, I NOW get a momentary flash on the keyboard lights, then nothing.... not even the beep.

A little more information please, only the case or was a new PSU involved?

BIOS's report different error beeps, if you can ID the motherboard (look between the expansion slots) we can perhaps narrow this down.

What do you mean "case off ", have you only removed the side panels or is this a new case/psu etc?

    Should have been more specific.

Removed the COVER only. No PSU or case changes...same ones.

Microstar 6714 MoBo (link in post above).

Desktop style so cover comes off in one piece.
