    Vista 64Bit sys, Sp1

Looking for a site with a step-by-step procedure for making a "C" drive into
    partitions of C, D, E, F, and G,

Also need to change the DVD from "D" drive to "X" drive, must this be done
before or after partitioning (or will vista auto adjust)

    thanks,
    savagcl

PS: Once i get vista figured out, there won't be as many questions (I hope).

First and easiest option is to add a second hard drive;)

BACKUP ALL Important data before proceeding.

Second option is to pop in your Vista cd and start over with a fresh install. You can tell the installation to make the C drive a certain size...

Third option is to puchase a partitioning software.

Fourth option is to go into Diskmgmt.msc and use the new "shrink" function to shrink the C partition. You'll then have unallowcated space to make additional partitions.

Ideally, to keep it simple, you should limit the drive the FOUR primary partitions which is the max number.

You can change the DVD drive letter anytime just like you did in XP via Diskmgmt.msc.

Now i know why the maximum shrink size is so much smaller than the space
    available -

Unless i'm missing something that is. Right in the middle of the HD is a
bunch of non-removeable files guess that limits the space.

Dumb question - is there a way to move the non-movable files? :)

    thanks for the replies,
    savagcl

If it is your Pagefile (Virtual Memory), you could try setting that (temporarily) to No paging file (Control Panel > System and Maintenance > System > Advanced system settings > Advanced tab, click the Settings button under Performance, Advanced tab & click the Change button under Virtual memory).
