[No internet access after fresh windows xp pro install]

i just installed a fresh copy of windows xp pro on my dell dimension 8250

i have this hooked in network with my laptop that i am on now....

i have the modem on, i have the router on..... all the lines are hooked up and everything.

i have internet access on my laptop but not the desktop as i described...

i formatted my hard drive while installing the new copy of windows.

but when i inserted the dell dimension resourceCD
it has a checkmark next to all the following:

audio drivers: analog devices ADI 198x integrated audio
network(NIC) driver: intel 10/100 LOM
system drivers: intel 800 series integrated chipset
video drivers: nVidia 64MB GeForce4 MX 420 w/ tv out

those ones are all checked, and i assume that means they are installed on my hard drive

which i don't understand considering the fact that i just wiped the drive and the only thing i have installed is windows
their are other various user guides and such listed below with no check mark.


I GUESS I WILL GET TO THE POINT...

SOMEONE HELP ME GET ME CONNECTED TO THE INTERNET ON MY DESKTOP
as i mentioned before my laptop is running off the same router and is connected to the internet

Goto the control panel > System > Hardware > Device Manager and see if the network adapters are all working fine. If the drivers are missing, there will be an indication with a yellow question mark.

Install the drivers as necessary.

 

scarinu10, it could also mean the reverse. It could mean that the setup program would install these drivers if you run it. Run the cd.

 

as six said, i went and did all that, i have a question mark next to ethernet controller and multimedia controller

i installed my multimedia controller because i still had the disc....
however i think the one containing my ethernet controller is missing....

i went to dell and searched through the drivers... and could not figure out which one i needed....

any help on this would be greatly appreciated...

i have a dell dimension 8250

I'm working on a Dell 8250 with the same specs as Scarinu10. I'm having the same trouble with getting an internet connection. I have taken all the steps noted (installed both drivers and dignostic untilies) and still nothing. Any information and/or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

 

Wired - Cable Modem - Linksys Router

Double Check BIOS and the NIC is On

When I downloaded the Intel - Diagnostics Utility and ran the file, PROSet II installed. The Network Status shows Speed -- 100 Mbps. I ran the Diagnostics test and all 5 show Pass. The Network Connectivity test shows Pass as well.
