I have found a pretty good deal on a monitor, but it has VGA only (as opposed to DVI). What are the chances that low-end computers 2-3 years from now (when we replace our desktop) will still have VGA, as opposed to DVI only? I see that you can't get computers (stock) with the 3.5 inch floppy drives any more. Is this port for the graphics cards going the same way as the floppy? Or is it reasonable to expect computers for several years into the future to have these VGA ports?

I'd guess they'll still be around for a few more years but you'd have to consider if the monitor doesn't have DVI is it such a good deal.

For what it's worth if I could predict the future I'd have won the lottery by now ;)

There is a DVI to VGA adapter, so if the video card only has DVI, you can use the adapter. An adapter might come with the monitor. Most graphics cards I have purchased come with one.

Thanks for mentioning that. I just looked and the adapters are below ten bucks. That doesn't look like it will be a problem.

That gives me quite a bit more room for maneuvering (and I got that word spelled right on my first try:D).
