My brother's keyboard is behaving strangely.

He types @ and he gets "
types # and gets the pound sign
    types " and gets @
    types \ and gets #

It's not the keyboard as he has tried a second one and still gets the problem.

    I'm typing this on mine.

    Is it a setting problem?

    Any help muchly appreciated. Thanks:)

Yes, your brothers keyboard is set to the wrong region.

I'm guessing the system is configured for UK but he's using a US keyboard (it may be the other way round).

For UK keyboards Shift-2 gives you " but US it's @.

Goto control panel -> Regional and Language Options -> Select Languages Tab then click the Details Button -> Select the correct setting from the drop down "Default Input Language "

You may have to use the Add button below to install the correct Language if it's not available and if so your XP CD may be required.

    Hi Speke,
I just recently fixed a laptop with the same issue but don't want to be certain it's the fix for yours but I'll explain anyways...

If the issue you are having this problem with is a laptop, and the keyboard does not have a numerical pad to the right like desktops have, "then press the num lock key once to shut it off" and this should take care of that problem...

    Keep us posted...
