    Hi Everyone,

    I desperately need help..!!!

I might be in the wrong topic area completely, but my PC has problems, and I am just not sure where it all started, and what is really going wrong.

I`ll try to go from where it seemed to begin..

At the last Firefox upgrade, I kept getting a message that there was an error, and Firefox could not complete the installation of upgrades. And then, after the 3rd, or 4th time of this, it seemed to upgrade, and everything seemed fine.

The next thing was that when I switched on my PC, I would get a message saying that there was an error with Google Desktop, which could not be loaded, and it reccommended removing it and reinstalling it.

I have been pretty run off my feet these last 2 weeks, and I removed desktop, but did not re-install it.

Then life got a little strange.. I picked up my phone to call a friend, and I could hear the internet connection through the phone line, like you used to get on dial-up. After 5 mins , it went bak to the dial tone, but the line sounded crackelly. I phoned my friend, but she could hear me, but I could not hear her.
After this, I could go online as usual, but, gmail will not load unless I load it on Basic HTML, which is extremely limited. I can go online and load my Facebook site, for example, but I can`t use most of the facebook applications.
for example.. I cannot "add friend "... when I press add friend, it just goes into "loading" mode, but never gets there. But, if someone sends me an add firend request, I press "confirm ", then refesh the screen, and it takes.

Anyway, I phoned TalkTalk, and they said that there was a "Known problem ",
but that I had to report it as a phone line problem in order to have the broadband problem solved.

So, TalkTalk texted me to say that they tested my line, and that it is okay.

    But, my problems persist.

I have run AVG, and I get this message...

    c:\WINDOWS\system32\shell32.dll Status Changed
    c:\WINDOWS\system32\ntoskrnl.exe Status Changed
    c:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts Status Changed

I don`t really know what this means, or if it is something wrong.

I have an HP desktop PC, with Windows XP, and Firefox.
    My emailer is Gmail.

I have had this PC for about a year, or just under, and it has never had any problems, until now.

Pleas forgive me if this message is in the wrong thread, I just didn`t know which section to place it.

Many thanks for listening, and hoping that someone has some advice as to what might be going wrong with my system.

    Spidercat..x

    Hi,

I think you are too but please read on...

That's a little worrying. If you have an analogue modem connected to the phone line check your bill or contact your telephone company.

Just to clarify ADSL Broadband is not analogue, a faulty filter could also explain the "internet connection" noises so most likely it's not a concern, I'd still make sure you don't have rogue dialers though.

Have you installed SP3 recently (since your last AVG scan)?

If not you may wish to read this and post in the Malware Virus Removal Forum.

    thanks, Wilcat..

Thanks for getting back to me, Wildcat,

I have downloaded and run the program as you suggested, and have posted it in malware threads.. I split the info into 2 posts, info notepad, and log notepad, but after posting the 2nd one, I got a message saying that it would appear after being moderated, although I think the first posting went on okay.

Hope this info makes sense to someone..

    many, many thanks, Spidercat..x

Erm... That'll be Wildfire or Paddy to my friends ;)

The moderated message is normal, and I'm sure someone will look at your logs soon. Unfortunatly it's not my field though, but those guys know what they're talking about.

Are you having any problems when you use Internet Explorer? I prefer Firefox, but I thought I would ask. If no problems, I would suggest removing Firefox completely. What version of Firefox do you have installed? If it's 3, maybe you should try the latest version of 2. I have both running on different systems and actually prefer version 2 on the system I use most. I think it runs better. Just a personal preference. I would not load any extras during the reinstall of Firefox, i.e. toolbars, and see how it runs.

I'm sure somebody will get to your scans soon and get back to you with suggestions.

    Mike
