Need HELP: Win:Vista Business Edition, Nortons Gohst 14.0, Dell Inspiron 530.
Have Vista on primary HDD, Useing ghost to clone primary HDD "0 ") to Second HDD (1) which is a new HDD. After all is complete and I re-boot to the HDD-1 which is the cloned hard drive all works perfect. WHEN I disconnect both drives and just hook up the newly cloned HDD it will boot but will say "installing user settings then finishes booting BUT there are no Icons or tool bar on the desktop. ALSO when both HDD's are set up as previousley mentioned and I boot from the DELL boot utility to the newly cloned HDD it will not start of by saying it is setting up the desktop "as when alone" rather it boots exactly as supposed to. Soooo what 'am i missing here? I have the "advanced settings in ghost" set according to the help files and no matter how many times I try I keep getting the same results..Den.....this is my first time trying this Ghost trick!!!!

I haven't used Ghost in years...BUT, usually, after the clone it's very important to remove/unplug one drive. Having TWO C drives hooked up at the same time isn't good.

    Vista and Norton's Ghost

When I connect "only" the ghosted drive thecomputer boots to the Vista splash screen AND displays "Prepairing your Desktop" after a bit this leaves and the boot continues but I get NO Icons nor is there a "tray" displayed.
IF ileave both hard drives connected as when I clone them and then use the Dell Boot Manager to boot to the newly cloned HDD it will work perfect..Den.

I place a guess here... try booting from the Vista DVD & run a boot-up repair.

I haven't had any experience with Vista & Drive Imaging software either.

    Vista Buisness and Norto's Ghost

Could do that but it would defeat the purpose of ghosting the HDD..Den....

I think you've created a dual boot and the drives depend on each other...Meaning drive two needs files off of drive one. You might be able to fix it like Arie mentioned, but...

I would start over...When the clone is complete - shut the pc down. Unplug the original drive and try to boot up with the 2nd drive.

I'm a Ghost user but I still use trusted old Ghost 2003. That means that I have no experience of Ghost 14 (or any previous version based on PowerQuest DriveImage). There's a forum dedicated to Norton Ghost and the people there actually use the program. The link is in my signature.

    VISTA & Nortons Ghost

Well after trying every which way with Nortons I decided to download and try out ACRONIS True Image 2009. Worked "perfect" including booting from the newly cloned drive and with "it" the "only" drive connected--Norton's would not do that..Thought I'd let everyone know the outcome of this problem...Den...

Acronis True Image solved my problem

I used Ghost 9 for awhile but it let me down when I needed it most, I was on vacation with a major problem that even HP Tech support couldn't fix -- but Ghost 9 wouldn't work, so luckily I had the operating system with me. I got home and bought Ghost 12, spent 2 hours online with their live email tech support and they couldn't make it work so they sent me Ghost 14. It didn't work either so I literally threw all Ghost discs in the trash; I bought Acronis True Image and I've been a happy camper ever since.

Thanks fer the reply, least I know now that I was not the only one that couldn't make the fool thing work. I sure did waste a lot of time on it yet alone the money. Thought 14.0 was going to do the trick but guess the techs at symantec need to get back to the drawing board!!!!...Den......
