Have you looked in the BIOS for boot order or similar, and set accordingly?

In the system BIOS you can select a boot order e.g. floppy, IDE 0, CDROM etc...

I'm assuming that your motherboard has both PATA and SATA and the default boot order is using PATA which you don't have, so it gives an error then proceeds to the next device SATA which you do have so all is well.

Do you know how to access the BIOS (usually DEL or F10) and change the boot order?

By the way my congratulations on building a computer without knowing too much about them.

Perhaps you could post your motherboards make and model? From this someone could look up your BIOS instruction manual and give you some specific steps to change your hard drive configurations.

Yes, check through the m/b manual (before I build a computer, I often download the motherboard manual and read through it, then follow it as I am building). That's where you will get your experience :)

Check for the option to "Autodetect Hard Disk Drive" or similar wording.

I had similar problem with Asus mobo and American Megatrends bios v 02,61
It's my way - during reboot hit del (to enter bios) - choose boot page (from bookmarks on top) - Select line boot setting configuration - and last change line wait for "F1" if Error to disabled.

Boot will be a little longer, but you don't need to hit F1 every reboot.
