Tracing Scam Artists

    I know that it is almost impossible to trace the scam artists through e-mail addresses or their ISPs, but when a telephone number in the UK is given it should be possible to get one name for the scam link. Who should be informed about this latest attempt to con people.

    If its one of those pay as you go phones you can't trace it.

    Of course Steve! I live in France where the portables use 6 at the front, and I'd forgotten that in the UK it is 7.

    It's probably some premium number that charges you $10 for a call... I tried via Skype, but that number isn't supported in Skype.

    Start here, if they can't/won't help I'm sure they'll at least put you in touch with the relevant police departments.

    EDIT:

    FWIW I commend your interest in stamping this out. The more these people(?) realise that the internet is as dangerous to them as it is to their victims the better.

    It's not a premium rate, but in my opinion any response (other than by police) adds to their ammunition.
