After an HD failure a few months ago I had to install Win XP Pro SP3. Anyway things went well but I'm still looking for drivers for the modem (this is not the LAN version) and an unknown device, which I'm hoping is related to the modem because everything else (I can think of is listed and working).

Anyone know what modem shipped with the Laptop or do I have to take it out and examine?

What happens when you go to NEC's web site and look for drivers?

You eventually get a link for a recovery CD creator I guess, but as the HD failed (hence replaced) then it's no good. I'll have another look but seriously Steve I've spent a couple of hours on google regarding this and haven't got anywhere.

I'll get back in a few minutes.

I was wrong IIRC I was thinking of a link I found on driverguide.com.

The NEC site informs you how to determine the BIOS version based on serial number, other than that I can't find anything (it is a discontunied product  )

TBH I'd rarely use the modem and the unknown device  if I don't know what it is how could I miss it :D. I'd still appreciate help though but it's not that important.

Do you know about FTP browsing? You could browse their FTP server, the drivers are probably still there.

It might be just a Winmodem. Try installing basic drivers from the list using the Add Hardware wizard in Control Panel. If you get close enough it might say "these are not the correct drivers for '..........' hardware ".

Cheers Matt, TBH I'd totally forgotten about FTP , I'll give that a go.

Feel free to flame but can I ask what list you're reffering to?

Do'h, hands engaged before brain and eyes kicked in :D Ignore the query regarding the list - I've already tried that. Only information from device manager is "PCI Modem "

    Cheers Jac

I never thought of checking the australian site, UK and USA no longer have the drivers (I couldn't even find a Sitemap link for those portals).

Anyway drivers installed now and modems working fine.
