    "Can't find the server. "
Do you get that while composing or after you click the send button?

Sounds like you need to check the ISP account settings.

I have not yet been able to get into the Outlook to set anything that is the heart of my question. How do I get in to set the incoming and outgoing servers and the username etc when the program shuts itself down before letting me into it?
    Thanks:confused:

:mad:I am sorry that is really not very helpful. If I knew where to look I would have. If I had somthing to offer on this forum I would. and have. But if I have nothing I would not bother to post. If you intended that to help I appologize but I do not see how it did.
    Thanks

Are you trying to say in a round about fashion that you don't know what Control Panel is?

You click on your Windows START button and then should see an option for Control Panel. Within Control Panel you should see an icon called MAIL. Within the MAIL icon you should have the ability to add your email account information.

and ps...using the pretty colors makes it hard to read your posts.

Don't think I was being round about at all I said the comment "read the microsoft data base" was singularly unhelpful. In the entire previous message track I don't see control pannel mentioned. I respect your background and find it difficult to see what you gain by demeaning mine. Despite that I have found the information I needed and see no point in continuing this chain. Thanks for the comment about the colors.
    :)

    Eh?

    You asked:

and Steve offered you the way to do that:

Control Panel > Mail, click the E-mail Accounts button. That's where you can set up email accounts, and where you enter the incoming/outgoing email server details.

There's another thing what might be fouling up things here. You mentioned Outlook (your first post), are you sure? Don't you mean Outlook Express? That's a different program & would require a different approach.

    apology

    :( Mr. Jones,
Upon rereading this column again I find I repeatedly missed the "Control Panel-> MAIL icon->Email Accounts " you had tried to convey to me. I did not read that as part of your post and completely missed the answer you had provided. I appologize and thank you for attempting to help me even if I was not astute enough to recognize the answer when you provided it. Thanks a bit late.

    fixed part of the problem

I got into the control pannel and set up all the isp info and user data. The problem continues to be when I spin up outlook it tells me that the ,ost is not configured as an offline file. Apparently outlook is trying to operate offline. I need to be able to either reset it to on line or configure the ost (and .pst?) file as an offline so I can reste the outlook as online.
    Please basic instructions.
    Thanks in advance.
