    Gdday all,

I installed IE8 Beta 1 on my Vista SP1 and it ran OK, bar the odd hiccup.
When Beta 2 was released I discovered that Beta 1 does not appear in the "uninstal" listing.

Has anyone found the same and, perhaps found an east solution?

If not I'll just keep on with Firefox.
NB: I tried Chrome and it works OK, but so does Firefox . . .

    Thanks, MikeH

Can't you just back up the update? I think I downloaded BETA 1 but didn't appreciate the pic lens not working so I rolled it back by removing the update from the update list.

i have not read any replies yet that answered this question
    What of system restore ?
Often Microsoft makes it that once installed it is difficult if not impossible to go back - happens with i.e. 6 to 7 and direct x upgrades

I couldn't get system restore to work on this upgrade. Go to updates, check uninstall IE8 and it will go back to IE7.

Since when IE8 beta was distributed as Windows update? This is nonsense.

    Thanks for the response.

My problem is that IE Explorer Beta 8 DOES NOT APPEAR ON THE UNINSTAL LIST!
As as roll back is concerned, it's nw a few weeks since the install and Vista'srestore system seems to go back only a few days (because of the number of overnight updates, which make up a sizeable list of their own). I haven't worked out how to lengthen that list of restore points.

How to uninstall Internet Explorer 8 Beta 2
To uninstall Internet Explorer 8 Beta 2 in Windows Vista, follow these steps:
    1. Click Start button, type Programs and Features in the Start Search box, and then click Programs and Features in the Programs list.

If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password, or click Allow.

    2. In the Tasks pane, click View installed updates.
    3. Click Internet Explorer 8 Beta 2, and then click Uninstall.
If Internet Explorer 8 Beta 2 does not appear in the Currently Installed Updates list, run the following command at an elevated command prompt:
    FORFILES /P %WINDIR%\servicing\Packages/M Microsoft-Windows-InternetExplorer-8*.mum /c "cmd /c echo Uninstalling package @fname && start /w pkgmgr /up:mad:fname /norestart"

    I see, but:
I assume, that update will be available only to beta 1 users, correct?

That is the way I read that, yes. And Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 only as well, no Vista automatic WU at that time.

In Windows Vista, Windows Internet Explorer 8 is, for some reason, not considered as a ‘program’. It is categorised as an ‘update’. You will not find IE 8 in “Programs and Features” of Windows Vista.

Go to Control Panel, and click on Uninstall Programs link or Programs and Features icon. Then on Tasks pane on the left, click on View installed updates link. Locate and select Windows Internet Explorer 8 in the list of installed updates, and then click on Uninstall button. Click on Yes when asked that are you sure want to uninstall the update.

That's what I forgot, it's listed as an update. IMHO it makes sense.
