save yourself a Gig of hard drive space by turning off hibernate (if you don't use it)... Vista doesn't have a method of turning it off via the GUI as previous versions did.

In a command prompt window.. [type] powercfg -h off [enter]

According to the MSKB the command is now: powercfg.exe /hibernate off

You can use powercfg.exe /hibernate on to switch it back on.

Just to clarify: both commands will work.

Note that not all systems may support hibernate. You can check your systems available sleep states by running the command powercfg /a from a command prompt.

What I understand is when I go into Help and Support is this setting is only good until the next time you run Disk Clean Up.
    Is this correct?

Just a minor interjection here ... it should be noted that the preferred state of inactivity under Vista is Sleep, although Hibernation is still available as an advanced power plan.

    Hu?

If you want hibernate to be enabled, just make sure that Hibernation File Cleaner is un-selected (= default) when you run Disk Cleanup.
