whoshe - Welcome to the Board :)
    Two questions ....

What is the name of the video editing software?

Does your friend have a GeForce FX 5700lc graphics card? To find out download and install Everest - run it and look under Display > GPU and post back with the detail of the video adapter shown at the top of the right hand pane. Example ....

If it is that card uninstall the graphics card software through Add/Remove Programs - be careful not to uninstall the nVidia chipset drivers if the motherboard has an nVidia chipset. Reboot and install the drivers you downloaded.

There is one thing which is concerning - the Pinnacle website states that the minimum graphics card requirement is NVIDIA® GeForceâ„¢ 6
We need to know what card is installed to progress.

    Hello Pete and whoshe,

This is how I read the requirements:
"DirectX® 9 or higher compatible graphics card with 64 MB" <- This is the minimum. 128MB (graphics RAM) is recommended.

"128 MB required on Windows Vista" <- Minimum for Vista. I see this was originally in the Win XP forum.

"(256 MB ATI® Radeon®9600+ or NVIDIA® GeForceâ„¢ 6 or higher recommended)" <- This the recommended requirements for Vista.

"256 MB required for HD and AVCHD editing (ATI® Radeon®9600+ or NVIDIA® GeForceâ„¢ 6 or higher recommended)" <- This is for working on (at) High Definition graphics, but it doesn't look like the program has started running yet.

I expect the 5300 should have at least 64MB of RAM. It will be running at or near minimum requirements and won't be capable of processing HD graphics.

Running near minimum you do need a good set of drivers and if there were any problems after installing the graphics drivers, look at other drivers like the chipset (motherboard) and audio drivers.

    Matt

If the system happened to have an nVidia chipset, the uninstaller should be labelled nForce, that is what they call their chipset drivers.
