I just bought a Toshiba Sattelite A200-SC3 laptop from Staples in Toronto. It was advertised as having a 1.83 Gb Intel Core 2 Duo Processor, T5550. When I got it home and opened it up, I found that it has an Intel Centrino label on it.

I thought the Intel Core 2 Duo processor was very different from the Centrino: have I been swindled?

Centrino is a platform name from Intel. It consists of a certain CPU, motherboard & wifi. Within the platform there could be many CPU families.

The Centrino is a family of CPU's for mobile computing - labelling has changed - based for the most part on Core 2 Duo processors.

Acid test - Device Manager > Processors and expand. If 2 CPU's are shown you have a dual core :)
