I have been learning more keyboard shortcuts lately, but don't seem to have come across one for closing out a program (I know Ctrl+W and Win+M, but I want to shut down the program). I have tried Esc which works on some but not all. Is there any such shortcut for closing that I have missed?

Barring this, is there anything wrong with shutting a program down like this, if I can install one of those keyboard shortcut programs, and assign that task to Esc? I mean, its not like turning off a computer before shutting down Windows is it?

    Found it--its Alt-F4.
I would assume that because this is a keyboard shortcut that Windows uses on most if not all programs, that it won't hurt anything by doing this.

    "keep closing programs...."
what do you mean? such as other programs in the taskbar?

EDIT: yes I see---keeping both ALt and F4 depressed will close any program in your taskbar. Well the whole idea for keyboard shortcuts is that you want to be quick, so be quick or be dead I guess is the byword here. :)
