Hi All...I a newby to this forum and this is my first post, so here it goes!

I recently found myself plagued with the Cyberlog-X Trojan Virus, which activates a desktop pop-up and system tray ballon every minute or so to tell you that you have the Cyberlog-X virus and to click the supplied links to get the appropriate software to remove it. (all the while, the software they suggest is bogus and clicking the links only adds more malware to your system...and no, I never clicked them). After three days of sleuthing and trying different fixes, the only solution that seemed to work properly was ParetoLogic's XoftSpySE and RegCure software (both came bundled for about $40 CDN). In the end, they seemed to fully scrub the virus.

The Current Problem: I still seem to have one lasting effect on my system that is preventing my from opening any websites that have anything to do with web security, antivirus protection, changing Windows update settings, etc. All other websites open just fine...just nothing security related. I also can't auto update either my anti-virus solution or my Window's Automatic Update (changing the settings in the control panel doesn't seem to work). I also notice that a number of web-based ads (doesn't matter what site I go to) have been blanked out and replaced by a bright red background.

    Any suggestions team?!

    Security website denial continues

    Hi PeteC,

Thanks for the info. I actually am pretty adapt at removing viruses and know pretty much the full cast of anti-virus software. For some reason, these issues have not been picked up by the anti-virus solutions. My thought is that a virus, which may already be removed, changed some settings in windows perhaps that place certain files or websites on a restricted list. I could easily be wrong, but failing the identification of any further viruses, I'm at a loss as to why only specific website addresses or online ads are denied, while all others work fine.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

    Hi Coolhand64 :)

There are many infections labled as something-something-trojan virus that aren't really viruses, but malware, and many antivirus solutions just won't pick up on a lot of malware. Pete has already given you a good recommendation, though if you're unwilling to follow his advice, then I suggest you look into your HOSTS file.
