I am using Windows 2003 as server and windows xp client. I am not able to access network from client sides.

I always need to use administrator password to login to network from client side. When I checked it in the event viewer, alll the client systems shows the following error.

Windows cannot obtain the domain controller name for your computer network. (The specified domain either does not exist or could not be contacted. ). Group Policy processing aborted.

Automatic certificate enrollment for local system failed to contact the active directory (0x8007054b). The specified domain either does not exist or could not be contacted. Enrollment will not be performed.

I tried many things like changing the DNS settings. But still the problem exists.

    Can anybody help.

    Best Regards
    Benny

    Hi truebytes

    Welcome to the BBS!

Clarify! Are you saying these are the only 2 computers on this network?

If not how many workstations on this network and do they all work ok?

    Hi Mike,

    Thanks for the instant reply

Clarify! Are you saying these are the only 2 computers on this network?

No. We have one windows 2003 server and around 30 windows xp work stations.

If not how many workstations on this network and do they all work ok?

First thing is network is not accessible from the client machines. When I try to access the network from client it always ask for the User Name/Password and I need to login with administrator. Second the event viewer of all the client machines shows the below error messages.

I tried many ways like changing the DNS settings in the server. Also I went through the Microsoft Article kb/310461. But still I couldn't solve the problem.

Hope you can help me in this.....

    Hi Mike,

    Hope you are doing good.......

I already went through the given articles.

I edit the registry and add the value. but still the problem persists.

I think the problem is related with DNS. In my system when i give ipconfig command the result is as follows.

    Windows IP Configuration

    Host Name . . . . . . . . . . . . : IT
    Primary Dns Suffix . . . . . . . :
    Node Type . . . . . . . . . . . . : Hybrid

    WINS Proxy Enabled. . . . . . . . : No
    DNS Suffix Search List. . . . . . : hlcl.com

    Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection:

    Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : hlcl.com

In some other machines which are belongs to the same domain and network shows the following result.

How do we get different results in clients from the same DNS server ? My primary DNS is sjed0001.com. However in my system which is getting the Connection-specific DNS Suffix as "hlcl.com" can access the network. Only from my system.

Do we need to change anything with DNS server ?

    Thanks & regards
    Benny

    Hi True

Deal with only 1 workstation at a time for now "management3 ".

No changes to DC yet except this:

? is the 2nd NIC on the DC "Autoconfiguration IP Address. . . : 169.254.82.156" used or connected to anything.

If not then get it out of the way by going to to Device manager and disabling it. If it is used or connected then it can find no DHCP server hence the 169.xxx.xx.xxx IP.

    So tell me about this!

Now on management3 station. For now go to Local Area Connection manually specify the DNS Server as 194.9.163.10

    Reboot test for issue.

If no joy after reboot put the below number as secondary DNS.

    hlcl.com is 208.69.32.132

    Reboot and test again.

This probably is temporary just to see if it works. If so we may change it later.

Just do this and get back to me for now! Still somewhat busy here but at least I am in the office.

    Mike

    Hello Mike,

    Sorry for the delayed reply.

I changed the DNS settings in management3 with pref.DNS as 194.9.163.10 and secondary as hlcl.com, but not 208.69.32.132. Also the DNS suffixes as hlcl.com. Now its working fine. I am able to access network. So I am pretty sure that it was the problem with DNS

However I assigned it statically. But when it comes to DHCP everything back to the old situation. Let me try.

I will be really greateful to you. I learned many things from you.

Will be back with some new query.

    Thanks again.
    Benny

    Hi Benny

Ok so what did you do to the second NIC 169.???.??.? if that was connected to the other Server then there are issues.

I meant for you to do the static dns's 1 at a time and reboot to see which worked alone, or if both worked?

Or even a third boot to see if it actually required both to work.

You need to get the DNS servers correct but as for static IP and static DNS I prefer Static IP and Static DNS when the network is small enough to manage it easily.

    Hi Benny

I reread my post on this I did not make it clear.

That don't sound right. Should only need 1 or the other.

    Clarify it actually takes both.

Did you put in the frist one reboot and check?

Then remove the first, put in the second and check?

Then finally do both. If you did not check individually and put both in then likely only one is required.

For sure the Server is Statically assigned for both IP and DNS?

    A thought!

Do you have more than one DHCP provider.

Like is the router also providing DHCP? If so disable in the router and let the DC do it all!
