Me thinks its time to move to Arizona or any desert community...

Yesterday morning I was woken at 1am by a hail storm. See the attached Hail picture...

On the attached "storm" map I live north of the word Dallas in the RED zone...

The storm woke me up...I turn on some lights/coffee maker/computer (which was stupid with the light flichering) and then I turned on the TV which I normally wouldn't do...

Weather guy is all but screaming: "If you live in the suburb X, take cover NOW. A tornado is forming.... "

    SAY WHAT...That's where I live

Anyway, it blew through and all appears OK.....Going to find out why the City Warning Sirens didn't go off...

I did discover that I have my own built in warning system-> When the heavy flap on the doggie door blows open - it's storming outside...

I'll stick with our blizzards here. What's 11 foot of snow in a couple of weeks compared to tornadoes or hurricanes.

Hey Steve, glad you survived the storm and thanks for sending your weather my way. I spent the day delivering mail in rain and 30 mph winds. I'll tell you what, it wasn't a tornado, but it was a blast. Nothing better then horizontal rain. I just hope I'll dry out before I have to do it again tomorrow. :( I guess it might be better then the 20 "+ they could get up north. Then again, my shoes don't go "squish" when I walk in snow all day! :D

You got lucky Steve. Early this morning I was woke up by what felt like someone jumping onto my bed, except I live alone and my cat weighs only 9 lbs.
It was my place of residence being shook by the tornado flying overhead. By the time I got my cat and both my guitars and headed for the car, I stopped and looked at the rain (more like someone dropped Lake Grapevine on me) and seen I was not going anywhere fast to my planned shelter. But, by then it had passed, the storm itself was moving at 65 mph.
No warning sirens here, either. Unbelievably, it appeared I was the only person up and about in my neighborhood.

Local NBC news said something like 35% of the people slept through the storm:confused:

Warning sirens - apparently 65 mph winds isn't enough for the local officials to sound the alarms. Me thinks me will start attending city council meetings:rolleyes:

Glad to hear you both made it through mother nature's wrath - I'm with Whiskeyman re: the options - just about anything is better than being on the receiving end of a tornado.

    Regards,
    ;)

    Does that include Hurricanes:eek:

One of the Discovery/History channel type of shows does these Mega Disaster series. One of the shows did a "What it would be like if an F5 tornado hit a large city." They picked Dallas as their model city and what the path of destruction would be like…It wasn’t pretty. The mildly scary part was the age old: "It’s not If this will happen "“ it more a matter on WHEN this will happen."

I’ll gladly take the "chance" of a tornado over constant earthquakes any day. If I can’t count on the ground I’m sanding on to be rock solid "“ what can I count on…I have a good friend in California that judges earthquakes by "“ "If they don’t set off car alarms "“ he doesn’t bther getting out of bed." No Way Jose for me:cool:

I've been through three up close and personal. Emily (Bermuda), Andrew and most recently Katrina. I'd still say yup, that includes hurricanes.

    ;)
