Ad-Aware Stops Scanning

Hi all,

Has anyone had an issue with Ad-Aware not completing a scan? I'm talking about the latest free version.

 

More details would perhaps help.

Like, when does it stop, half way thru, 3\4s, at any particular file system point? CPU spikes? Is system known to be clean??

 

A complete scan stops at: C:\Supramax.usb\ (my modem). Plus, scan engine core will not shut down after the program is closed. I have to reboot to fix that issue. I can complete a Smart Scan however.

I also noticed that AVG Anti-virus hangs at: C:\SystemVolumeInformation\*.* while doing a scheduled scan. I can complete a manual scan though.

A Spybot S&D manual scan completes without issue...haven't tried a scheduled scan yet.

FWIW, I just re-installed XP Home 3 days ago. The OS was fine until I downloaded Office 2003 updates for 2008.

Sysfader also wants to hang at restart or shutdown too.

To tell you the truth, this is my 3rd re-install of XP in eight weeks, and I am scratching my head trying to figure this issue out. I thought, after the first two reinstalls, that my problems were stemming from XP SP3, RC 1 & RC 2, but neither of those beta servicepacks were installed on the third re-install.

Google has not been much help either.
