    Hi kesher

The domain where that tool originates from is listed in hpHosts database. It is among a group of other sites on that IP, many of which are known to spread malware(EMD) or are involved in ad tracking(ATS). Which to me seems like a bit of a conflict. But maybe it's just me.

I wouldn't touch that software at all. Is there any specific reason, beyond privacy you're looking to hide your IP?

  3. to hide this advert.

    TeMerc,

Thanks for posting that link to hpHosts Online, another lookup tool I didn't know about. :)

EDIT: I gather from looking up a couple IP addresses and a couple site names, hpHosts Online uses a color code at the top of the query information table.
    • RED means Beware (and the IP/site is listed in the hpHosts database).
    • GREEN means they have not listed the IP/site in their database (yet).

The hpHosts "Classification" abbreviations (ATS, EMD, EXP, FSA, GRM, HFS, HJK, PSH, WRZ) are defined in this link.

I discovered Kesher is seeking opinions via a few other forums as well. ;)

You're welcome mailman. MysteryFCM, aka Steven Burn who runs hpHosts online has many other valuable tools if you go look at the main site. All free. And he has some more goodies coming too.

And I saw the thread at vnunet, not the others tho.

There's no way to completely hide your ip address. You can use a site like above or a proxy server, but THEY know your ip address and can retain a database table of everything you've done when using their service. As can your ISP.
