    When I try to open task manager in my Windows XP Pro I get this message.
    'Task Manager has been disabled by your administrator'
    I am logged in as administrator and I am the only one who uses this pc. How do I enable task manager?
    Regards Paul

    Thanks for that but when I run gpedit.msc which it says I have to use because I'm running XP Pro, I then double click on Administative Templates under the User Configuration it then says to double click on System, but I don't get that I only get Windows Componants I don't see System.

    Are you logged on as Administrator or with Administrative rights?

    Could be a virus or malware. Scan your PC with good antivirus & some antispyware util.

    Replace Task Manager

    Download the free program "Process Explorer ". Once downloaded you can use the options button so you may replace the task manager program. This program is far far more extensive than Task Manager thus offering far more info than is available with your non functioning Task Manager

    Process Explorer is, as you say, very comprehensive, but for most folk way OTT.

    The problem we have to resolve is as outlined in the first post :) If my suggested solutions do not work then rsinfo has a point that malware may be at play.

    Paul

    Have you tried the reg fix from the URL I posted earlier - BTW - I trust this guy :) ....

    http://windowsxp.mvps.org/Taskmanager_error.htm

    I also came across this - posted 'as seen' and maybe the same ....

    Fix Task manager has been disabled by your administrator - Error

    Try:
    "run "->Type "gpedit.msc "->
    search "system" -> "Ctrl alt del "->enable it.

    and the other way:
    run->type "regedit "->search "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies] ",then create a "Dword" named "DisableTaskMgr ",to set value -> "0 "

    &
    Run notepad.exe
    type following words and save it as *.reg.

    --------------------------------------
    REGEDIT4

    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System]
    "DisableTaskmgr "=dword:00000000

    ---------------------------------------

    Thanks guys, in one of your first suggestions under option 2 it was suggested I download REG fix and run it.
    I have just done that and Task Manager now works.
    Thanks again Paul
