Looking closer at your spec ....
you do indeed have a DVD-RW drive.

Are you able to read or play other DVD's?

If you put the Vista DVD into the drive can you view the contents in Windows Explorer?

Is your copy of Vista Ultimate genuine? - have to ask :)
The boot order determines the order in which the computer looks for a bootable device when you power it up.

Have you tried setting the Boot order to CD/DVD-ROM > Hard drive?

Try booting from the DVD in another computer - if that works OK there is no problem with the DVD, but I must ask once again - is this a retail Vista DVD and not a copy??

Doubt it - Lightscribe is only a piece of software which enables you to burn an image (title, etc) onto the reverse face of a DVD/CD in a Lightscribe enabled burner.

I have no further suggestions and will ask another hardware guru to take a look.

There is no dirt, scratches on the disk? If you clean it, use mild soap and warm water with soft tissue paper. Wipe from the centre out, not a circular motion.

Installation Media may not be recognized when you try to install Windows Vista from the CD or DVD.

[Pete, you may be interested by the "flat installation" method]

Look for a firmware update for your drive (go to the TSST website and look up your model, sh-s202n).

You could try starting with a boot CD (www.bootdisk.com), then running Setup.exe from the Vista disk.

I expect there is no problem making a copy of the DVD on another computer and trying to boot to that.

    That's OK Pete.
In the article, it seems to make quite a point about the drive not being able to read the media. Since it can be seen by Windows Explorer I wonder if it is just the boot information on the disk that does not work in that drive.
