    Tried to search for this and couldn't find anything...

    System = XP Pro SP2 (Dell BIOS)
    Printer = Lexmark All-in-One

    When rebooting my system, the USB-connected printer will power off during shutdown sequence but does not power back on upon reboot. I have tried to leave this "always-on" via the Control Panel --> ... Device Manager and unchecked the "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" in the Power Management tab. This did not work, as it still turns off during shut down.

    Is there a way that will truly leave this device always-on, or is there somewhere else (maybe BIOS?) that will enable this to turn on during startup?

    A little puzzled here ....

    The power to the printer comes from the main supply - not the computer. Are you inferring that the printer is not detected on reboot?

    Thanks for the quick reply. The printer's power does come from its own power supply. I don't want to answer your question incorrectly, so here's what happens.

    - Start --> Shutdown
    - Printer physically turns off during shutdown screen, do not hear the "USB disconnected" chime
    - Upon computer boot, printer never turns itself back on
    - Icon in tray (Lexmark All-in-One center) shows an "X" indicating cannot find printer
    - Physically turn printer on, you hear the "USB connected" chime and icon in tray removes "X" and printer behaves normally.

    Ok - I understand - I am familiar with Epson Printers plus an old mono HP.

    My immediate reaction would be to uninstall the printer completely - check for software updates and reinstall.

    Thanks! That was it, I don't know why I didn't even try it?! Sure enough, the power was off after a desktop reboot and to do a complete test (I have the printer networked), I managed to print something via laptop.
