Yes my son poured a glass of water into his laptop. After much work and purchasing recovery disks from sony got system to work. Also recovered 20 gigs of data before recovery. problem is Isass.exe which as I can see has some solutions. My keypad will not function and windows boot is stoped and unit shuts down. Recovery disks load up and shutdown. I am left with one solution I beleive purchase Windows XP and start over. My quesyons is what do you all think Joe

Joseph - Welcome to the Board :)

Are we talking of one and the same computer here ? ....
If we are looking at just the laptop and the Recovery disks will not work there is little chance that a retail copy of XP will either.

Water and electronics do not mix - I would put the computer into the airing cupboard for 24 hrs or more to dry it out as thoroughly as possible - lid open, optical drive tray open. The damage may be irreparable even though you had it working temporarily.

If the laptop was insured against accidental damage I would claim. Over here household insurance generally covers computers.

I should have elaborated more. This happened in December and it was dried out by a computer repair co. They installed a new ACPI Uniprocessor and returned it to my son and said they could not retreive the data. I disassembled the laptop to make sure it was dry. It was starting Windows then cycling off and running very slowly. It took me 2 days to get a program called tornado active so I could transfer the data. After data transfer I restarted the computer and used the sony recovery disks. Completly reinstalling the system to new factory condition. After setting up Windows with users and passwords I was promped to update windows. Which I did. On reboot the current problem arose. Am thinking of connecting a keybord to the laptop to see if I can get acess. Joe Just put a XP copy into laptop

Yes. But the keyboard was not working. Lo and behold I put a copy of XP and tried to do a repair. opted out of that computer strarted up after long reboot. Is running fine now. sometimes the keyboard and mouse do not function when first started.Cannot get to bios or start a XP cd. Water is a wonderful thing but not in electronics. Could be a problem on the mother board where the keyboard connects before drivers are loaded. Keyboard works fine after drivers are loaded. Right now making recovery disks after that is finished will restart to see what happens. That error message may reappear will see.

Noticed that system would boot after I jostled laptop. Completely disasembled unit found mineral deposits on two places on motherboard. Cleaned off with a soft bristled brush. Rasembled unit cycled several times. Runs ok.

Thanks for the update, Joe. Glad to hear that you may have found the cause of the problem (almost certainly :))

In future please post again rather than editing - we don't get notification of an edit :)
