Hi! I recently restarted my computer and got an error message regarding "Apoint.exe" and that there was an issue with "loading the dll ". I took Apoint.exe off my startup load menu, so I no longer get the error window, but I cannot open any applications (AIM, MSN, etc) and my IE is super slow to load--like it's frozen, but then it suddenly works. My wireless network connection is also not working. Here's my HJT log (I downloaded it into its own permanent folder in my C drive)

sweethunibabi - Welcome to the Board :)

Apoint.exe is a component of the drivers for your Alps Touchpad
so I guess you're on a laptop. I don't see a connection between stopping that loading and the problems you note, but suggest you reload/update the touchpad drivers for a start.

Could there possibly be another issue on my computer, not related to my touchpad? I never use it, I have a wireless Mogo mouse that hooks into my computer via Bluetooth.

I'll try reinstalling the touchpad first though, and see what happens.

Certainly, but if your problems started when you removed Apoint.exe from the Startup there would appear to be a connection.

Once we have established that Apoint.exe is not part of the equation we can move your thread to the Removing Spyware & Viruses forum.

If reinstalling Alps Touchpad does not help / resolve, try reinstalling your wireless Mogo mouse.
Also, did you install any new programs / program or MS updates prior to this issue?

I didn't touch the Apoint.exe file until after I got the error screen.

The problem initially started after I unplugged my Ethernet cable and re-enabled my wireless (Enabled the radio). The computer basically crashed. We have a wireless router in my apartment, but it hasn't been working for a while, so I usually just hook right into the wall and use the Internet provided by my University. Now, my computer stops loading the desktop...it loads maybe four programs and the rest it does not. My wireless icon on my taskbar isn't even there, and when I went into my Connections (through the Control Panel) it says that my wireless connection is Enabled, but there is still a red X over the icon.

I re-enabled Apoint.exe on my startup, and I don't get the dll message anymore...but there is still an issue on my computer. I also reinstalled my touch pad and the mouse.

My IE browser is either extremely slow to load, or it crashes. I can't open any programs and opening any new IE browsers is sure to take at least 5 minutes to get a functioning webpage.

If no new programs and problem started after a crash, try using System Restore. Choose a restore date prior to the crash.

Have you tried disabling the wireless connection - from what you say this seems to be the start point of your problems.

Can you start the computer in Safe Mode?

    Ah, I should've mentioned that.

I tried to restore my system to yesterday, the day before, and even to a day several weeks ago. It ays that it is unable to complete the restore--I'm so confused as to what the issue is.

    Thanks for that link.

I followed the instuctions, but to no avail. It simply will not restore my computer to an earlier date. It does the same thing that happens in normal startup. I can go through the motions of restoring--choosing the day, and confirming it. But, after I restart, the screen simply says it was unable to restore my computer.

I do get a popup screen telling me that my workgroup will be changed, and after the restore it will be called MSHome. I took a screen cap, but I'm not sure if that helps? http://tinyurl.com/2du8pt

    . . .

    EDIT:

I did a Spysweeper scan--turns out I have a trojan? Winbudget. I'm not sure what this is, or why my Norton won't pick it up. Should I restart in Safe Mode and scan a few times?
