My IE7 seems unable to "see" any cookies at all once it has been closed and re-opened. It can find them again before its closed.

Plus other temporary files act the same way, for instance the space at the top where one types in web page addresses has a button with a little "v" in it to click on and see previous entries. Once IE7 is restarted this shows an empty box.

However if I click on the favourites star and then history I see the history there and can get to the desired site.

I can browse the folders with Windows Explorer (I had to set it to show system files) and the cookies seem to be there.

    Yesterday I uninstalled IE7 and re-installed it. I’m running XP SP2.

    Any assistance would be appreciated…

Lloyd - Welcome to the Board :)
Which cookies does it find - just new ones or previous ones too?
    Two possibilities .....

Is Autocomplete checked? Tools > Internet Options > Content > Autocomplete.

Is IE set up to empty temporary internet files on close (recommended)? Tools > Internet Options > Security section.

Hello Pete C: Thanks for your response

    1) It finds no cookies except those created during the session

    2) Three of the four boxes in Autocomplete are ticked

    3) Sorry, I could not find "empty temporary internet files on close (recommended)" in Tools > Internet Options > Security section

    Apologies - my error :( .....

Tools > Internet Options > Advanced tab > Security section (scroll down)

    More thoughts on this ....
The Address Bar - this will only hold URL's that you type in - not any that you access via links in say Google. Do your typed in URL's not hold?

I wonder if your antivirus or antimalware software is deleting cookies on exit.

    Pete:

Thanks, I found the section and the box is UNCHECKED

re the Address bar: Yes URLS that I type in are lost when IE shuts down and reopened.

I never thought about my Anti Virus AND its recently been updated. I'll investigate that ASAP

Thanks again for your assistance... Lloyd

Autocomplete may be corrupted - I suggest you uncheck all the Autocomplete boces - close IE - re-open IE and recheck the boxes and test.

Pete: I think you nailed it with your suggestion about my Virus protection...

I think I've successfully turned off the new and improved "Web Privacy Control" feature. I'll do a few tests and let you know.

Thank you, Thank you,Thank you Lloyd

That's excellent news - glad we managed to nail that one :)

Antivirus and Antimalware software is becoming increasingly intrusive and over protective IMHO, especially when certain features are set up without the users consent.
