I just recently purchased the CA Security Suite. Got a good deal on it! It has anti-spyware and spamware on it. I need to know if I can get rid of Spybot Search and Destroy. It does the same thing, right? For that matter, every time my computer loads after a boot, my windows advisor says it blocked Spybot from running and I never could get it to leave it alone! I'm using all the features in the suite except the parental controls. I don't need that in my house. So, can I dump Spybot? Just need some input.

    Thanks.

    :)

Hi Panda, hope you had pleasant holiday.

Alot of what users keep on their systems really has to boil down to a few things, most importantly is the overall surfing habits of the suer and if any others have access to the machine. The more with access, the more chance there is of someone perhaps veering off the beaten path.

You're already running Vista, so you have a step or two ahead of some others who are not.

You can leave Spybot but just use it as an 'on demand' scanner. Be sure TeaTimer is off and set it to not start with Windows. I believe you can use Vista, or part of Defender to do this, it's been a while since I tinkered with my Vista Ultimate, I prefer XP.

That's my .02 anyhow. Hope that's been helpful.

Thanks for the 2¢. I unchecked it on loadup but am not sure what you mean by teatimer. At least now when I boot up in the morning I don't get that stupid message from windows defender that says it stopped Spybot from loading and running. It was driving me nuts! lol.

Yes, I had a good Holiday. Hope you all did, too.

    :)

Thank you. I didn't realize that. Guess I just forgot when I first got the program and was reading everything on how it works. I'll make sure it's turned off now. Also, since that checks my registry for changes, can I assume :)eek:) that my CA will be watching for that now, too?

I'm not familiar with what protection is offered on the CA app. I'd guess tho if it's an all encompassing suite that it does some form of 'live' monitoring of files and registry. Consult the help file.
