I have a laptop which was running really low on space so I moved my whole profile to another drive and got under 1 gig of space. But after a while (a few days) it went to 500mb and now I'm at just below 200mb. Using WinDirStat I see about 700mb as "unknown" and it correlates that the size of everything else and free space does not add up to the partition size (10 gigs).

    What is this "unknown" about?

Great find mailman! I installed the app just to see if I could see what it was myself, but hadn't found any <unknown> space yet. hehehe

That's probably because you have your computer tweaked so you can see everything at will. :)

Your interest in WinDirStat piqued my curiousity enough to make me click on their home page link. Looks to be similar to SequoiaView that someone else posted about here at Windows BBS last summer.

Since you downloaded and installed WinDirStat, I'm gonna give it a shot. :p I assume you got it from http://windirstat.info/wds_current_setup.exe, Right?

I noticed it's also available at http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=91252 and SourceForge seems to be a safe place to download software from if I'm not mkistaken.

Please correct me if I am wrong.

I grabbed it from sourceforge, and for the record, I've never had any problems with files coming from sourceforge (trusted site in my book).

    And then some ........ :D

I also like Spacemonger. The fact that it's standalone sits well with me.

    You're very welcome! :)

Somehow, I'm not surprised. ;)

Thanks! Trusted in my book now too! :) Just downloaded it. Now I'm gonna create a SR point, install, and play. :D

Thanks for the link and giving me a dilemma. ;) I think I'll try the stand-alone first. I tend to like stand-alones better too....but I expect the SourceForge.net community is pretty good about producing efficient uninstallers too. We'll see! I might wait for your feedback about that first. :)

Heh...I finally found the old stand-alone version (v1.40) after downloading v2.1.1 (30-day shareware trial) and v2.1 (free?) (both of which use installers). Had to click on the "Free Software" tab. I also downloaded v1.02. Dunno why. I guess just because it was there. :p

Well, I didn't monitor the installation, so I wouldn't know how well the installer works. I expect the uninstaller will be much better than say, Symantec's :p
