    Hi guys,
Can anyone tell me what is the main deference between IE and Mozilla Firefox ? I have been using IE (version 6.0) for one year but from now on I have decided to use Firefox. I just want to know as to what Mozilla can do which Internet Explorer can not.
    Thanks!

emilyjuston - Welcome to the Board :)

You are not comparing IE and Firefox on a level playing field if you have been running IE 6 (tut, tut :)) - upgrade to 7 then make the comparision:)

Both of these browsers are popular. To say one is better than the other can be represented as "opinion to that user ". Use the one you prefer. Their will be times due to how a website developer writes code for a site, one of the above browsers will not work. You can contact the site and voice your problem, choose a different site, or like many of us for that rare occasion, will use the "other" browser.
My preference is Firefox. I prefer it because it allows me to add extensions / addons which enhance my Internet experience. I have 6 browsers installed, Firefox is my default browser.

I find that no browser is actually better than any other. They all have their own strengths, problems and security holes. On my system Opera is the default browser. I also have Firefox and IE6 to use for sites that aren't Opera compatible.

That is a very loaded question.

Asking which Browser is better is like asking which car is better. Ford or Chevy. Or which brand of Gasoline is better ?

The better question would be " Which one seems to work and do the job better job for you ? "

In either case it may well not depend only on the product but THE USER and his/her likes/dis-likes. The better browser may depend greatly on the Hardware and software combo. It may also depends somewhat on what else is loaded at the same time.
I can 100% vouch for that because on this machine I can be on this site and have IE open at the same time. On the other machine that would be a CRASH.

There is NO ONE piece of software that works alone. There is always a combination of Software-Hardware-User staring us in the face.

And last but not least. Just because a certain piece of software does not work for me or you does not mean the Software is too blame.

OUCH !! just looked at the time.
Gotta get out of here and go pickup some new Meds for My Wife.

emilyjustin: A suggestion. Why not upgrade your IE 6 to IE 7 (you really ought to do that anyway), and then install Firefox and see how you like it? You'd find out which of the two browsers works better for you on your system. I know that doesn't really answer the question you asked, but it's a course of action worth trying.

Re: Is Mozilla the best browser???

    Hi,
I found out an interesting detailed review of many a browsers and I think it is interesting to learn that Firefox Mozilla is the best of the browsers available. You may like to visit http://www.browsers-review.com and check out as to what they say about Mozilla. Happy Holidays!

I would CAUTION anyone AGAINST clicking on that link rawdavid1 posted above (for the time being anyway).

I just checked McAfee's SiteAdvisor about browsers-review.com and SiteAdvisor said "No results found for browsers-review.com....We have not yet reviewed this site. "

I would CAUTION anyone AGAINST clicking on that link rawdavid1 posted at least until the site gets a decent reputation at SiteAdvisor and/or other established Windows BBS users confirm the site is not malicious.

EDIT: I do not currently have a computer that I wish to use for testing sites to see if they're malicious or not. Perhaps TeMerc would be willing? ;)

I see nothing wrong with the site. That MacAffee has no info on the site doesn't mean anything.

Now, there's no indication who is the 'reviewer', so I have no faith in the ranking of the browsers.

It seems just to be some insignificant 'company' from Switzerland behind the domain:

    ibisweb corp.
    via peri 9
    lugano, lugano 6900
    Switzerland

I say insignificant 'company' , because they don't seem to have a web presence, and the email address on their registration is an @hotmail.com address.

How can it be a review if it doesn't provide specifics?

    This may help.

That's the thing FF has that IE doesn't.

EDIT: Also many safety features(ex: Choose not to accept cookies) and more options than IE.

You clearly do not know IE - that option is available under Tools > Internet Options > Privacy. BTW blocking all cookies will deny you access to many sites.

I started with Netscape Communicator ten years ago, switched over to Firefox and am now back to Netscape Navigator 9. Netscape has the same extensions that Firefox has along with the same quickness of providing patches for critical issues. When I am not using Netscape or Firefox (both of which I use 95% of the time) I use Opera. I rarely use IE 7 although I do have it installed. I just see no reason to use it since Netscape works so well for me. I think it's more an individual preference rather than which is "better ".

    All the best.

Thanks for letting us know, Arie. :)

I realize SiteAdvisor does not (cannot?) crawl and store information about all sites and even a "green" rating at SiteAdvisor (even with positive reviews) does not necessarily mean a site is not malicious. SiteAdvisor information still often helps me make my decisions about whether to click on a link or not.

However, I still believe one should be careful about about deciding whether or not to click on a link to an unfamiliar site (especially one posted by a new Windows BBS user...no offense to rawdavid1) just as one should be careful about clicking on links in email messages (especially from unfamiliar senders).

I did not investigate the whois info about browsers-review.com. I probably should have done so before posting my cautionary message. Even so, the apparent lack of "web presence" would still make me wary and I probably still would have posted a cautionary message (though I might not have sent you a PM about it).

I tend to be paranoid anyway and I would rather err on the side of caution to protect Windows BBS's reputation and its users. I sent you the PM because, if the site had turned out to be malicious, I wanted you to know right away so you could remove the hot link before the SiteAdvisor crawler picked it up and, perhaps, would give Windows BBS a "yellow" or "red" rating.

Thanks again for letting us know you found nothing malicious about the site.

    Additional Whois Info about browsers-review.com:

I did a little digging on that hotmail email address (frantik123*-at-*hotmail.com) via Google and found some other domains registered with the same email contact address (and one with a DIFFERENT postal mail address in a DIFFERENT COUNTRY).

    download-utorrent.com Whois Info:
    FileZilla-Download.com Whois Info:
    spywarebomb.com Whois Info:
    spyware-sweeper.com Whois Info:
The last two domains I posted Whois information about (spywarebomb.com and spyware-sweeper.com) appear that they might be sources of rogue anti-malware applications according to the following linked discussion at Sysinternals.

    ==========

NOTE: "Spyware Sweeper" should not be confused with Webroot's "Spy Sweeper ", which is a reputable anti-malware application.
    ==========

McAfee's SiteAdvisor Information About the Domains Listed Above:

    • download-utorrent.com (RED Rating)
    • FileZilla-Download.com (RED Rating)
    • spywarebomb.com (RED Rating)
    • spyware-sweeper.com (RED Rating)
    ==========

The English forum discussions in some of those Googled frantik123*-at-*hotmail.com links also make me wary still about browsers-review.com.

Given the apparently dubious associations I have discovered between the domain registrant's contact information for browsers-review.com and the other domains I researched for this post, I would still be inclined to at least remove the URL tags from the link rawdavid1 posted. ;)

Good point. In fact, it's what I do as well... use both Netscape Navigator, Firefox and Opera (when the spirit moves).

Let me try it once more so that the syntax doesn't upset you SO much.

I generally use BOTH Netscape Navigator AND Firefox on an equal basis. When the spirit moves me, I will opt for Opera (about 5% of the time). I seldom use IE7.

Hope that clarifies it for you.
