    ...please.

My girlfriend received an email from my outlook business account this morning, one that has been closed for over a year, it was sent from my old email adress to hers. The reason I am completely freaked out is that it contained a picture of her and her ex boyfriend, a picture I have never seen before.

I checked my sent items in outlook and there it was. I do not have this picture on my PC and I was awake and working on the computer when it happened, there was no-one else in the house.

Her ex boyfriend is a police officer and I just know this is TOO much of a coincidence for it to be a virus. Why the random pic that is nowhere on the internet?

Can you help? Do I have to wipe my PC as will it all be hacked?

    Desperate,

    Thank you

The message probably was NOT sent from your computer.
Anyone can send a message and just change the FROM setting in the email client and make it appear that it was sent by someone else. Hew ex probably has a copy of the pic and sent it to her. Hey, it's Xmas season, when some folks go a bit batty contemplating their losses...

If I knew your email address I could send you a message that appears to have come from Bill Gates!

If indeed it was sent from your comp then do a full scan with a good antivirus program. And check the time-date of the message in your Sent folder.

Just saw your edit, so are saying it is possible to get into my PC and send an email from my outlook? In which case, what would a virus scan do? Im sorry for being a pain. It was sent at 7.04am this morning apparently, though I dont remember opening outlook at all, I never use it anymore.

Hi, keri2323. Welcome to Windows BBS! :)
If you did not send the e-mail, then I suspect either someone with physical access to your computer sent it or you have malware on your computer that sent the message. A virus scan might reveal the presence of malware. Could anyone have had physical access to your computer at the date/time stamp for your sent message?

If you suspect malware, then please follow the instructions in this link and then post a new thread in the Removing Spyware & Viruses forum. Include a copy/pasted link back to this thread http://www.windowsbbs.com/showthread.php?t=69406 so the malware analysts can easily retrieve background information about your issue.

If you want to use an online scanner to look for malware ahead of time as TonyT suggested, there are a couple suggestions in this link.

    Good luck!
